What are the two types of actin?
Actin is a highly conserved protein family found in all eukaryotes and in most cases, the most abundant protein in the cell. Actin is found in two forms; monomeric G-actin and filamentous F-actin. In vitro, ATP -bound G-actin polymerizes in the presence of cations (K+, Mg2+), followed by hydrolysis of ATP into ADP.
