Recently, 1,005 Bitcoins (BTC) were moved from an old Bitcoin wallet after being dormant for 13 years, signaling an awakening of “ancient” Bitcoin. This movement of BTC coincides with other dormant BTC movements that have taken place in recent times.

The Bitcoin wallet in question was created in 2010 and contained 1,005 BTC. The anonymous user behind the wallet decided to move the BTC to new addresses through a series of transactions. This activity was first noticed by Blockchain researcher, developer, and crypto trader Kirill Kretov.

The information about the wallet and the BTC movement has also been confirmed by Blockchair’s Blockchain data. When the BTC was received in 2010, it was worth only $328. However, at the time of publication, the value of the BTC has surged to over $29 million.

This awakening of dormant BTC has led some to speculate whether it is the work of Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. However, Kretov believes it is unlikely that Nakamoto would quietly move such a significant amount of BTC. Instead, he suggests that a long-term holder or an entity associated with previous dormant BTC movements is behind the transaction. Kretov also speculates that the BTC may be sold through over-the-counter transactions, with the price potentially surpassing the current Market value due to the clean and old nature of the coins.

Kretov posits that the same user who previously moved BTC from multiple Wallets in 2020 and 2021 may be in control of this wallet as well. This previous activity included 13 separate instances where 1,000 BTC was moved in each instance.

In addition to this recent awakening, Kretov mentions that there have been three other instances of dormant BTC movements in the years following Bitcoin’s inception. These instances involved the movement of 1,000 BTC or more, further highlighting the rarity of such events. Kretov emphasizes that the current awakening is similar to these previous examples, as the BTC dates back to 2011 and 2012 and has different funding sources.

Overall, the awakening of Satoshi-era Bitcoins and the movement of dormant BTC is drawing attention from the cryptocurrency community. The speculation surrounding the identity of the holder and the potential motives behind the movements adds to the intrigue. As more information emerges, it will be interesting to see how these developments impact the market and the perception of Bitcoin’s history..
