Fox Business correspondent Eleanor Terret recently noted that President Joe Biden has announced his intention to re-nominate Democrat Caroline Crenshaw for a second term as Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Crenshaw has consistently taken an anti-crypto stance throughout his tenure in office, vehemently opposing the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January earlier this year. Some critics argue that he is an even greater advocate of strong crypto policies than his colleague and SEC Chairman Gary Gensler. Interestingly, billionaire Mark Cuban recently warned that Gary Gensler and his anti-cryptocurrency camp could cost President Biden the next election.
Following Donald Trump’s strong support for crypto during his recent campaigns, the Biden administration has been making a desperate push to reach out to the crypto community in recent weeks. The Biden administration is now asking for donations from the crypto community after cracking down on a number of crypto firms.
Community Backlash Emerges
President Joe Biden’s recent outreach to the crypto community was met with backlash from the community. Moreover, the Biden administration’s recent dual stance has the crypto community questioning whether it is truly pro-crypto or just pretending to be so for the sake of the elections.
“Biden wants to accept crypto donations but his SEC cronies are suing the largest US-based crypto companies (Coinbase, Kraken, Uniswap Labs),” wrote Ethereum contributor Anthony Sassal.
Messari Crypto founder Ryan Selkis also expressed his strong disapproval of any crypto donations to political campaigns before any concessions or policy changes are made. Selkis said: “I will not be able to look at anyone who donated to this campaign using crypto without spitting venom before ANY concessions or policy changes. “It would be a sign of complete cowardice, betrayal and negative self-worth.”
