Google Play Could Remove Orange Pill App Following Complaint

”bitcoin-crypto”

Google has removed the Orange Pill App from its Play platform after a complaint from the French telecom company Orange Group. The app, available on iOS and Android, was created to connect Bitcoin enthusiasts and facilitate global connections within the Bitcoin community. Orange Pill App allows users to build friendships, find potential dates, network, discuss shared interests, and connect Bitcoin-related merchants and buyers. Orange Group claimed that they have exclusive rights over the word “orange,” leading to the removal of the app from Google Play.

Orange Pill App’s CEO, Matteo Pellegrini, responded to the takedown request by Google with a public statement. He discussed the concept of the “orange pill,” which symbolizes embracing the revolutionary potential of Bitcoin. Pellegrini explained that their company, Orange Pill App Inc., was named with this idea in mind to bring together Bitcoin enthusiasts and create local communities. He emphasized their commitment to respecting intellectual property rights and stated that they have no intention of violating anyone’s rights. Pellegrini pointed out that Orange Group’s trademarks are in different sectors, while Orange Pill App’s trademark application is focused on internet-based social introductions and networking services. He respectfully requested Orange Group to reconsider and withdraw their takedown notice, allowing them to continue their operations without disruption.

Orange Group, previously known as France Télécom, is a multinational telecommunications corporation based in France. The Orange brand has been used for their mobile, landline, internet, and IPTV services since 2006. The brand originated in the UK in 1994 and was acquired by France Télécom in 2000. In 2013, France Télécom rebranded as Orange.

Google’s decision to remove the Orange Pill App from its Play platform highlights the potential conflicts that can arise when companies with similar names or trademarks operate in different industries. While Orange Group claims exclusive rights over the word “orange,” Orange Pill App argues that their business is distinct and does not imply any association with Orange Group. The resolution of this dispute will determine whether the app can continue serving its customers and connecting Bitcoin enthusiasts without further disruption..
