Musk claims Tesla is developing efficient ‘mini AGI’ for the future of driverless cars

Technology billionaire Elon Musk announced that electric car manufacturer Tesla is developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) for its Fully Self-Driving (FSD) vehicles, which is an important step in achieving fully autonomous driving capabilities.

In December. 29 posts on X, Required stated:

“It is becoming increasingly clear that all roads lead to AGI. “Tesla is building a highly compute-efficient mini-AGI for FSD.”
Musk’s statement came in response to a post highlighting the use of computer vision technology in autonomous vehicles. The post highlighted the potential for AGI to outperform non-AGI systems by improving the performance of driverless vehicles.

Since the emergence of ChatGPT last year, discussions among technology leaders surrounding the transformative potential of AGI across a variety of industries have been ongoing. Tesla stands out as one of the companies researching this advanced technology to pioneer innovative developments.

The automotive manufacturer focuses on achieving fully autonomous driving features in its vehicles. To achieve this goal, Tesla is harnessing the power of the Dojo supercomputer and using it to train machine learning models and develop FSD capabilities.

However, Tesla did not provide an exact timeline for achieving FSD. Musk had previously promised that this would be achieved by the end of the year, but this goal now seems impossible.

The company has recently been working on the FSD v12 update, which was initially planned for December and is expected to incorporate artificial intelligence into autonomous operations. Musk stated that v12 will take FSD out of beta phase.

However, Musk announced a few days ago that the release would be postponed due to the need for additional testing. While the technology has performed well in California, more testing is needed in areas that experience heavy rainfall.

Simultaneously, Musk’s other initiatives have also seen a rise in AI integration. The billionaire entrepreneur recently founded xAI, an artificial intelligence-focused company poised to rival OpenAI.

xAI has already introduced its Grok chatbot and aims to raise $1 billion in a new funding round to support its efforts.
