Is Abbasi Shia or Sunni?
Were Abbasids Sunni or Shia? The Abbasids proclaimed that they were Shia Muslims, and they succeeded at the time in obtaining Shi'ite support for their caliphate. Many of their contemporaries, and many current observers, state that Abbasids were actually more Sunni than they claimed.
