Telegram chatbot Unibot has suffered a significant loss of approximately $640,000 in digital assets after a hacker exploited a vulnerability in its newly deployed contract. The team behind the protocol is currently investigating the issue and plans to issue a detailed response in the near future. PeckShield, a Blockchain security firm, reported that the attacker transferred the stolen cryptocurrency to Uniswap and then used a controversial crypto mixer called Tornado Cash to launder the funds.

Following the incident, Lookonchain advised Unibot to swiftly move its funds to other wallets or revoke approvals of the compromised contract. Unibot confirmed the token approval exploit from its new router and promptly paused it to mitigate the issue. The protocol reassured its users that any funds lost due to the bug on the new router would be reimbursed, emphasizing that user keys and wallets were unaffected and remained secure.

This latest exploit comes after a series of similar incidents in the cryptocurrency world. Just days earlier, Maestrobots, a group of cryptocurrency bots on the Telegram messenger app, fell victim to a hack. The attackers targeted MaestroRouter on the ETH mainnet and drained approximately 280 ETH, equivalent to around $485,000 at the time of the hack. The Maestrobots team responded swiftly, identifying and removing the exploit. Users affected by the attack were reimbursed within a day.

Unfortunately, instances of hacks, scams, and exploits in the cryptocurrency industry are not uncommon. In September, CertiK, a blockchain security firm, reported that approximately $332 million in various digital assets were lost to such incidents. These incidents highlight the importance of robust security measures and constant vigilance within the cryptocurrency community.

In light of the Unibot hack, experts recommend taking immediate action to secure funds and minimize the risk of further attacks. Moving funds to alternative wallets and revoking approvals of compromised contracts are among the suggested measures. Additionally, users are advised to stay updated on security best practices and remain cautious of potential vulnerabilities.

As the investigation into the Unibot hack continues, users anxiously await the team’s detailed response and the promised compensation for any lost funds. The incident serves as a reminder to the cryptocurrency community of the ongoing need for diligent security practices and proactive measures to protect digital assets..
