FriendTech (FT) users have experienced unauthorized access to their accounts, leading to the theft of valuable digital assets. One user reported losing 22 ETH in a hack, with the attacker draining their wallet and selling their keys. This incident raised concerns about the vulnerabilities of the centralized service. The user highlighted the risk of linking one’s Twitter account to their real name, which could expose their phone number and make them vulnerable to such attacks.

SlowMist’s founder, a cybersecurity company, commented on the situation, emphasizing the risks of using FT. The platform requires personal information for registration but lacks two-factor authentication, making it susceptible to information leakage. The founder pointed out that the user’s mobile phone number had been SIM swapped, leading to the theft of their FT account. They also criticized Verizon’s Security measures in relation to the incident.

Another user also shared their experience of their FT account being compromised, with the hacker gaining access to all their keys and transferring their assets to another address. SlowMist’s founder noted that the user had logged in via email and had a strong password, showing that even with strong security measures, FT’s security remains vulnerable.

The founder predicted that once FT accounts are hacked, they may be permanently compromised due to the unique binding relationship between wallet addresses assigned by FT and users’ phone numbers.

These incidents highlight the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of centralized platforms like FT. The lack of two-factor authentication and the reliance on personal information for registration increase the risk of unauthorized access and theft. Users should exercise caution when linking their personal information to online platforms and consider using more secure alternatives..
